Episode #11:  The Burden of Proof

Episode Notes

What level of proof do we need about the harmfulness of some activity before we take action?  There is psychology behind why we often find it difficult to take action, even in the face of overwhelming evidence.  A “backfire effect” can occur when, in the face of overwhelming evidence, established beliefs do not change but actually get stronger.

When it coming to managing verses leading people our level of denial and lack of action has been extremely costly.  Employee engagement has been continually dropping for decades.  Its current level, according to Gallup, is less than 13 percent.  In economic terms alone, this has been costing organizations billions of dollars each year.  Leadership is not a position, it is a choice.  There is ample evidence of the importance of authenticity and emotional intelligence.  The proof is overwhelming and undeniable.  But sometimes proof is just another word for letting people suffer.

Our special guest today is Doug Leitch (https://www.linkedin.com/in/dougleitch).  Doug is Managing Partner at Tandem Thinkers Inc.  His authentic, emotionally intelligent leadership is inspiring regional, national and global clients.
