Our reticular activating system (RAS) is the gateway through which information enters our brain. It filters the incoming information we receive. This affects what we pay attention to and is based upon our internal focus and dialogue.
We need to learn how to lead and follow. The development of authenticity and emotional intelligence inspires highly engaged followers. We do this by gradually learning to become less resistive, judgmental and attached to outcome. In contrast to the authentic, emotionally intelligent leader, controlling individuals try to use their position based power to control others.
