MBL Minute: Wisdom, Experience And Perspective
Episode Notes
Wisdom and Experience
We need to improve our ability to make choices based upon wisdom rather than experience. It is an awareness and understanding of the choices we are making and the effects of those choices. Wisdom requires us to move beyond our paradigm and become more fully present. Authentic emotionally intelligent individuals demonstrate enlightened wisdom through their actions.
Perspective
Seneca was one of the original stoic thinkers. He was born in Spain and lived much of his life in Rome as an advisor to several emperors. His timeless wisdom and advice has not grown stale in the nearly 2,000 years since it was written. Anger can cause us to lose our perspective. When we are angry we are no longer able to view things objectively. We are unable to see the bigger picture because our mind has shifted into “survival” mode. We cannot control our primal brain any more than we can control our digestion or heartbeat.
