Episode #2:  A Tsunami of Change and Fear

A Good News, Bad News Story

After leaving school it is EQ, not IQ is the most critical factor in our success.  The World Economic Forum has declared that emotional intelligence will be one of the Top-10 most required career skills by 2020.

Here’s why…

  • We are living in a time of rapid and accelerating change.
  • Our primitive 5 million year old brain does not like change.
  • Cortisol is released into our bloodstream whenever we leave our comfort zone.
  • The resultant FEAR causes our walls to go up.
  • Our prefrontal cortex shuts off and we stop thinking.
  • We experience an “amygdala hijack” as we go into fight, flight or freeze mode.
  • This leads to conflict, chaos, drama and disengagement.
  • There is significant biological and sociological resistance to change.

The development of our authenticity and emotional intelligence enables us to feel fear and mindfully move through it rather than being controlled by the fear.  This multi-generational challenge represents a fundamental gap in our education and development that must now be addressed.
