Episode #24: Paradigm Shifts

A paradigm is a mental program that has almost exclusive control over our habitual behavior.  And, almost all of our behavior is habitual.  Our challenge is not a lack of knowledge, it is our ability to use the knowledge that we already possess.  If we do not change our paradigm nothing changes.

In order to change our results we need to change our underlying paradigm.  Paradigm shifts are the result of making different choices and the corresponding shift in behavior that occurs when we make those choices.  This requires the ongoing, deliberate practice of those new actions.

A growing number of individuals and organizations are learning how to become more authentic and emotionally intelligent.  This is creating a paradigm shift.  There are significant challenges associated with these behavioral shifts but the need and the positive results that are being achieved outweigh the emotional labor required to achieve them.

The willingness to do emotional labor is the key.  It is the courage and willingness to be in the muck and discomfort of the fear that changing our actions creates.  This is how we change our paradigms.  We were never taught the importance or the difficulty involved in doing this type of work.  This has kept us stuck in our current paradigm, wanting but never able to achieve those results.

We must be willing to move through our fear toward the Vision of our desired results.  Our current paradigm reflects the set of habits that we have created.  They are the source of both our success and our limitations.  They determine what we believe to be possible and impossible for us.  In order to change our results we need to shift our underlying paradigm.  The Master of Business Leadership is a powerful coaching program that creates paradigm shifts necessary for better results.
