Episode #10: Human Resources Unleashing Human Potential
Episode Notes
In the past decade or so employee engagement has decreased globally from approximately 29% to less than 13%. This drop of more than 50% is costing the U.S. economy more than $500 billion dollars per year. If a company’s employees are not engaged neither are their customers.
Employees become disengaged if they lose trust in their organizational leaders’ ability or willingness to protect them from danger. We all have a primal urge to feel safe. As the level of drama, chaos and conflict increases the body’s immune system may begin to shut down. These environments are not good of our health.
If employees feel safe they are more likely to take risks and embrace change. If they do not trust their leaders none of that will happen. Position based power “leaders” who are unwilling to risk their own personal safety have violated a deep seeded social contract with those they are tasked to lead. Their leaders have failed them.
Relationships are about feeling safe. Authentic, emotionally intelligent leaders are often willing to put themselves at risk in order to lead their people. Organizations must develop authentic, emotionally intelligent leaders to establish the trust that inspires engagement. When your employees feel safe so will your customers.
Our special guest today is Sherry Adams (https://www.linkedin.com/in/sherry-adams-110b8a/). Sherry is a Human Resource Executive with over 20 years’ experience. Her authentic leadership and emotional intelligence is helping unleash human potential.
